A Good Bet

In 1998 a man watched his son get soundly beaten in a go-kart race by a very fast young driver. He went to the bookies and asked to put a bet on this kid winning a Formula One race before he reached the age of 23.

William Hill laughed him out of the shop, but Ladbrokes gave him odds of 200-1. After this month's Montreal Grand Prix, where 22 year-old Lewis Hamilton recorded his first victory, the chap called up Ladbrokes to claim his winnings - 40,200 pounds.

If you need to slow down to 2km/h to clear a small speedbump...

...you need to take your car off the bloody road because it's too

The people you meet

A community morning tea with the Prime Minister.  So what if I was there for work - I still got the photo.  And he's a pretty decent guy.

Wow Apple. Just wow...

So - me being me, I'm naturally trying out the new browser that Apple has release - safari (nothing at all strange about having 5 different web browsers installed at the same time is there?).  And apart from the security flaws and dog ugly appearance, do you want to know what the big difference is between it any pretty much every other browser out there?

All the freaking buttons are on the left!

Close tab?  On the left.

Okay button on the dialogs?  On the left.

Bloody annoying.

Don't like the way it's laid out?  Too bad - St Steve doesn't let you do anything to customise the appearance.  Want to open a new tab?  Gotta use the drop-down menu or the keyboard short-cut.

Still - it's just a browser.  One that seems to lack a lot of features - even for a beta - it is a public one after all.

Steampunk stuff is cool

Uuuhhhh....

.....why???????????

PC Modding that is actually interesting

Here's an article on a Steampunk Monitor Mod. This is a mod that looks good (and interesting) as opposed to the common, 'Rice Burner' style PC mods that include way to many blue LED's.

Woooosh!

Success At Woomera With Scramjet Reaching Mach 10

The scramjet engine experiment reached speeds of up to Mach 10, approximately 11,000 km per hour, or ten times the speed of sound.

A pretty cool map of the Star Wars galaxy. See where all that stuff supposedly is.

Blogging Tool: ScribeFire

ScribeFire does most things, and it plugs into FireFox.

The only thing is that I cannot get the image upload to blogger to work.

Live Writer

I don't know what others are using to write their blog posts at the moment, but I'm finding that the best thing to use at the moment is a free piece of software from Microsoft called Windows Live Writer.

livewriter

Setup's pretty straight foreward.  Once you give it your blog address it automatically downloads your formatting information.  It supports labels for posts as well as a bunch of plug-ins.

The biggest downside to the program at the moment is that it doesn't support uploading photos directly to blogger.  But that's supposed to be corrected in the next beta.  All in all - a pretty nifty piece of software.

Weeds

Finally gotten around to watching the show - and I'm really enjoying it.  Well - enjoying everything except for the bloody theme song.  My god is it bloody annoying!

Funny or Wrong?

Very interesting and stupid flaw in Vista.

Vista and Non-Setup Programs
Vista has an interesting way to determine if a program is a setup program: the program name!

Fat lot of good the padlock did for him...

Yes - this was a real show

Just a pity I ran out of time to go see it. Wish I'd bought a poster.

Don't delude yourself - a vote for the Greens is a vote for Labor

Why bother even pretending they're anything more that a pretty marketing exercise for one of the big two parties when they're already decided who to allocate preferences to when neither side have fully unveiled their environmental platforms yet?

Shoot 'Em Up

This looks nuts.

Clive Owen, guns, violent British nanny.  What more could you want?

This is a riot!

This is a forum post by a guy who 'just tried to build a computer today'...you need to read this...bloody funny.

Here is a snippit which should grab your attention:

The building was good except for the chip. It had pins which can not all fit to the white part on the mother board. My friend said it doesn't matter I can just take those pins off. Now it fits fine.

Really cool Simpsons Intro
