British Royal Navy Submarines Now Run Windows

Microsoft's Ian McKenzie announced today that the Royal Navy was ahead of schedule for switching their nuclear submarines to a customized Microsoft Windows solution dubbed 'Submarine Command System Next Generation (SMCS NG)' which apparently consists of Windows 2000 network servers and XP workstations....The installation of the new system apparently took just 18 days on the HMS Vigilant.

For reference HMS Vigilant is a Vanguard Class SSBN, they carry 16 Trident II SLBMs. Now operated by Windows.

Did Coldplay rip off Joe Satriani...You Decide

There has been a bit niggling agro stuff between Joe Satriani and Coldplay. Bascially Joe is saying that Coldplay's Viva La Vida (2008) is a rip off of his own If I Could Fly (2004)...here you decide:

And no I didn't realise that it had already been posted.

Best kids costume evar!

alien_chest_burst_baby

ummm… what?

Reviewing Chinese Democracy is not like reviewing music. It's more like reviewing a unicorn. Should I primarily be blown away that it exists at all? Am I supposed to compare it to conventional horses? To a rhinoceros? Does its pre-existing mythology impact its actual value, or must it be examined inside a cultural vacuum, as if this creature is no more (or less) special than the remainder of the animal kingdom? I've been thinking about this record for 15 years; during that span, I've thought about this record more than I've thought about China, and maybe as much as I've thought about the principles of democracy. This is a little like when that grizzly bear finally ate Timothy Treadwell: Intellectually, he always knew it was coming. He had to. His very existence was built around that conclusion. But you still can't psychologically prepare for the bear who eats you alive, particularly if the bear wears cornrows.

An overly elaborate review for an over the top album

This is freaking cool

For a band that doesn’t want to sell their songs in electronic format, this is a pretty snazzy way of getting their new film clip out there.

Battle Bears!!!

I can’t comment about the quality of the game itself.  However – if this video is any indication, then they guys who are making the game are nuts.

People are crazy.

There's a production company called Bat in the Sun Productions who made some fan films.

One in particular grabbed my notice - One called 'Patient J'. It's about half an hour long, and it's about a doctor interviewing Patient J1928 at the Arkham Asylum. There are some tipoffs that it's on a shoestring budget, but apart from those it's really quite good.

There's allegedly a Quicktime version on their website, but it doesn't load for me. (Follow the link from the 'films' page - my URL-fu is too weak to send you directly).

I watched it on Google Video., but I'll also try to embed it.

JOSH-M-O

I finally transferred out of the UDA section at work, so I am once again going to be exposed to the gorgeous public via telephony. But the lads at UDA missed me a little, and so (during a bout of boredom), constructed a replacement.

It's kind of flattering, albeit a little creepy.

Words of Wisdom

Clarkson's highway code on cyclists:
Trespassers in the motorcars domain, they do not pay road tax and therefore have no right to be on the road, some of them even believe they are going fast enough to not be an obstruction. Run them down to prove them wrong.

Now THAT'S a PM!

While we have KRudd the Dudd, Russia has a real PM, one who takes on wild animals instead of just trying to get his face on the news for trying to make people happy.

The hypocrite has landed

The Pope has arrived, the guy who had seclared the accumulation of excessive wealth a sin arrived as follows:

Other passengers got their first glimpse of the 81-year-old about an hour earlier, when he was flown from his summer residence in the small Italian town of Castel Gandolfo to Rome's Fiumicino Airport by helicopter.
...
On the opposite side of the helicopter, three plain clothes security officers carried the Pope's luggage, which included several suit bags, three suitcases, and two briefcases. The entire group, led by the Pontiff, then boarded a waiting B777 plane.
