Number 5 is Alive

Nope - I've got no real issue with Dumbledore dodging the Potter boy as much as he can. Heck - it's perfectly understandable why he's trying to keep as much distance between them as he can. As for unelected authority figures - it's never really been established how people achieve positions in the Ministry of Magic is it? In particular the position of Minister - are they elected or appointed by some higher body? Knowing that might help understand how he seems to be getting away with some interesting decisions.

I've hit Chapter 25 now - and at last things are starting to happen. More action with Snape is always fun. The DA is a nice little set-up. I am starting to hope that there's some pay-off for the heaps of pity thrown on poor bloody Neville - that he gets to do something worthwhile sometime.

Of course I'm still waiting for Umbridge to grow a third dimension (yes I know it's meant to be a children's book - but it's almost as if JKR is expecting readers to boo and hiss whenever you mention that character...)
